Mahalo 'Ohana!

— Destination: Maui —

The Island of Maui

We've chosen the island of Maui as our wedding destination because we've fallen in love with it. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth with a diverse array of romantic landscapes and a fascinating cultural history. It shares the status of our “favorite” Hawaiian Island with the Big Island next-door.

We highly recommend downloading and using the Shaka Guide app while driving around Maui. It has several different tour routes that you can take including Haleakala and the Road to Hana, and will explain the history and culture, suggest places to stop, and will play some Hawaiian music based on your location.

Haleakalā

Drive to the summit of Haleakala at an elevation of 10,023 feet and see truly amazing views of Maui. You can do some hiking and see plants and animals that you will find nowhere else. Be sure to stop at the Kalahaku Overlook for a particularly otherworldly view of the crater, which is the place where we got engaged.

Other activities you may want to do on the west slopes of Haleakala include visiting the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, having lunch at Paia Fish Market, or joining a tasting at MauiWine.

The Road to Hana

Drive the Road to Hana, a 64.4 mile-long narrow and winding road with 59 bridges and 620 curves, ending at ‘Ohe’o Gulch, the Seven Sacred Pools. This is definitely an all-day activity, and we recommend waking up early to get a head start.

Using the Shaka Guide app while driving is a must-do on this trip to enjoy some music, history, and suggested places to stop. Another unforgettable stop along the way is Wa’anapanapa State Park, a.k.a. the Black Sand Beach - this stop requires advance reservations.

Lāhainā

Visit Lahaina, a historic whaling village which was once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Go on a self-guided tour and take in some history, visit some beautiful art galleries, and cool off under the shade of one of the largest Banyan trees in the country!

If you're stopping in for a bite to eat, we highly recommend Lahaina Fish Co. or Cheeseburger In Paradise, although there are several other great places too!
